Congressman Paul Honored with Thomas Jefferson Award

October 17th, 2002

Washington, DC: A prominent citizens group recently honored Congressman Ron Paul with its annual Jefferson Award, named after America’s third President. Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) has presented Paul with the award several years running, based on his steadfast support for Jeffersonian ideals.

CSE is a national grassroots organization with more than 280,00 members. CSE presents the Jefferson Award to legislators who consistently vote for lower taxes, less government, and more freedom. The award is determined at the end of each congressional session by tabulating key votes on important economic issues.

“I congratulate Representative Paul on receiving CSE’s prestigious Jefferson Award,” stated CSE President Paul Beckner. “Jefferson Award winners represent a handful of elected officials from around the country who have proven through their voting records that they believe in limited government and protecting individual liberties. Ron Paul’s voting record on economic issues facing hard-working American taxpayers- tax and budget, civil justice reform, technology policy, environmental reform, and health care and labor issues- makes him a clear winner for American families and businesses.”

“Those we honor with the award remember and practice what Thomas Jefferson said over 200 years ago: ‘The people are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty,’ Beckner concluded.
