Paul Honored as a “Friend of Farm Bureau”
October 1st, 2002Washington, DC: The American Farm Bureau Federation has honored Congressman Ron Paul with its “Friend of Farm Bureau” award for his pro-farmer voting record in the 107th Congress.
“This award is given to those individuals who have supported Farm Bureau issues as shown by their voting records, were nominated by their respective state Farm Bureau, and approved by the board of directors of the American Farm Bureau Federation,” a spokesman for the Bureau stated. “The voting records were based on priority issues selected by the American Farm Bureau board, and is presented biannually to selected lawmakers who worked as advocates for agriculture during the last Congress.”
“I’m very happy to receive this award, because agriculture is the backbone of the 14th district of Texas,” Paul stated. “I believe in getting government off the backs of our farmers, as opposed to encumbering them with regulations handed down from Capitol Hill. Congress can best help farmers by eliminating the estate tax, reducing needless environmental regulations, and opening up new foreign markets for agriculture products. Land and water issues should be decided at the state or local level, rather than at a desk in Washington. The big-government federal approach has failed to bring farmers the prosperity they have been promised.”
