Paul Announces Matagorda County Job Fair in Palacios
May 16th, 2000Surfside, Texas — This weekend, Congressman Ron Paul announced that he will be holding a Job Fair on Saturday, June 3rd in Palacios. The event will be held at the Palacios Recreation Center at 1401 Perryman Ave. from 9am-1pm. This is Paul’s first Job Fair of 2000, but follows four other successful fairs he has held in other locations around the 14th District.
“Our goal is to bring together employers and potential new employees in areas that suffer from high unemployment rates,” said Paul. “Last summer, we had more than 300 people participate at our Job Fair in Luling, and I am confident this event will yield the same results.”
Palacios, located in Matagorda County, has an unemployment rate of 15%. Approximately 50 employers, ranging from private businesses to government agencies to military recruiters will be on hand looking for new employees.
Paul said, “The problem is often not that jobs are unavailable, it is just that employers and applicants cannot find each other. It is great to be able to bring them together in this kind of setting.”
